|Welcome to The Bell Tree Tavern|
The Bell Tree in downtown Southern Pines draws its inspiration from the taverns of yesteryear. From the street, a black awning hangs over a heavy wooden door punctuated by a cast-iron door knob. Inside, polished hardwood floors, an exposed brick wall, a high-top dark wooden bar and ornamental chestnut-colored ceilings add to the old-school ambience. Huge storefront windows overlook the tree-lined Broad Street. Wooden tables and chairs and cast-iron-and-smokey-glass wall sconces pull the old-world look together. But its timeless style doesn't stop with the just the tangible. The tavern's name carries historical significance, too. As the story goes, thirsty travelers in search of a libation would ring a bell inside a hollowed tree to signal that they wanted a swig of moonshine. Moonshiners used this method as a way of avoiding capture. Visit The Bell Tree and you're likely to hear the story behind its name.
The tavern has an extensive drink menu. The bar offers weekly drink specials, and stocks more than 40 kinds of whiskey, 13 draft beers and a wide assortment of designer liquors from chocolate to melon vodka. Since it opened, The Bell Tree has reinvented itself from a whiskey bar to more of a neighborhood pub. Regulars belly up to the bar and watch one of the eight flat-screen TVs that loop sports broadcasts. The restaurant is smoke-free, but an outside bar and patio provide refuge for smokers.
Besides the food, The Bell Tree offers events and specials, such as a New Year's party the tavern threw over the holidays. Check our Events page to find out about all the everyday of the week at the Bell Tree Tavern
